What we do

Small software.
Real problems.

Workdog builds practical tools for the snags that show up in everyday work. Each one starts as something we needed ourselves.

  1. Software

Focused tools that do one job well, with fewer settings and fewer interruptions.

  2. AI & automation

Practical ways to work alongside AI agents: better context and fewer repeated steps.

  3. Data & analytics

Turning scattered numbers and notes into something you can read, question, and act on.

Our first tool is in the works.

The way we work

Small tools.
Thoughtful details.

A clear purpose.

Start with a snag in a real workflow. Build the tool you wish you had, then make it useful to someone else.

Considered defaults.

Less setup. Fewer interruptions. Give the little decisions the attention they deserve.

Curiosity, applied.

AI is part of the daily work here: a way to explore ideas, build software, and solve practical problems.

The person behind Workdog

Curiosity is
part of the job.

Hi, I’m John Workman.
I like figuring things out.

I’m an independent software builder who spends much of the day working with AI agents, code, and data. Workdog grows out of that hands-on work: practical tools for the friction I encounter while building things and solving problems.

The name Workdog comes from “I work like a dog.” The idea behind it is a little different: build useful things that make work feel a little less like work.

Stay curious. Make something useful.
A good place to start

Let’s make work
a little easier.
