Windows 7 Ultimate from VHD
Now that I switched to Ultimate, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on my work laptop from a VHD. I am able to boot back to XP if needed, and my original harddrive is now my D: drive. it's great. Windows 7 – Booting from a VHD – Gotcha
Unfortunately, after spending way too many hours trying to make this work, I just learned that you can not setup Windows 7 to boot from a VHD with Windows 7 professional, only Ultimate and Enterprise. This isn’t a show stopper, but it’s definitely a setback. I really wish I started with Ultimate to begin with. This was a big waste of time. Windows 7 - Booting from a VHD
I’m attempting to create a duel boot on my laptop using a VHD of Windows 7. I heard you could do this, but then I found this great article on http://www.SevenForums.com that describes it in great detail - How to Create and Attach a Virtual Hard Disk in Windows 7. I’ve already created the VHD of Windows 7. That seemed extremely painless, but extremely unintuitive if it wasn’t for this article.
