Blackberry Curve - USB Drive - for file copy

I copied a bunch of movies on to my blackberry using Media Studio for Blackberry.  I have a 2 gb card in it, so I can fit 4 movies at high quality.  I had this great idea.  I found a female to USB Female A To USB Mini Male B 5 Pin Adapter on Amazon for $6, and I thought I would be able to store additional movies on my thumb drive and copy them to and from my blackberry without having to connect it to my laptop.  Sound perfect, doesn't it.  Unfornately the USB Drive isn't "plug and play" on my blackberry.  I stil think this can be done, I just haven't figured it out yet.   I think one of the problems is that the blackberry doesn't put out power like a laptop/pc does. I also thought this would be great if someone had a file on their USB Drive to give me I could just plug it into my BB and copy it over.  No need to go back to my desk.  Oh well, nice try, huh.

If anyone has figured this out, please enlighten me.

Did you ever figure this out? I am trying to get a word, excel and powerpoint doc out of my blackberry (sent as an attachment to me) and onto a USB thumb drive.

Kelly - Not yet, but I was traveling the past week and haven't been trying as hard as I would like. If I figure this out, I will definitely post a msg back out here. Please let me know if you figure this out too.

I am a bit confused by your comment though. If they were sent to your blackberry, you should be able to forward them to another email account that you can access and copy to a thumb drive.

I achieved file transfer (photos) from USB to Blackberry without PC using Laser OTG USB mass storage device copier. Details of gadget at http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/laser-otg-usb-mass-storage-device-copier/. I bought mine from ecom computers http://www.ecomcomputers.com.au/

The process will work in reverse - BB to USB. It is slow but free of risk of viruses if you are travelling without your own notebook. The idea for me was to check photos copied off camera chip onto 2 USBs for backup when travelling. One USB goes in hand luggage, one in suitcase. Even if the camera is lost, at least one set of images survives. You can use the camera instead of Blackberry, if you have a spare chip. But Blackberry can move really important photos to another directory and delete remaining files faster, once they are checked.

You also need a card reader, adaptor to suit chip, cable and 4.5v DC power supply to OTG. I use an old Motorola phone charger. [I have never found that ordinary AAA batteries are good enough in the OTG but camera ones might work.] Remove card from Blackberry (or camera). Connect everything up, press button and wait. With luck, all files are copied.

Hints: Delete really crappy photos from camera before transfer to USB. Flick OTG switch from “Root” to “Disk” if result was not as expected. Check at least one USB for good copy. Don’t fill camera card too full, this possibly works best if total of files transferred is <1 GB – a lot of photos!

Not an elegant solution and I am surprised there is not a better one out there. If you have one let me know.

This may help. Go to Options --> Media Card --> 'Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected:'

If this is set to no, change it to yes or prompt.

This fixed it for me.
